Stayrent ("we", "us") is a platform that helps tenants find rooms, flats, PGs and hotels directly from owners. Stayrent is operated by STAYRENT (Proprietorship, Udyam registered MSME), India. This policy explains what personal data we collect through the Stayrent app and website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

1. Data we collect

• Mobile number: to create your account and log you in with a one-time password (OTP).
• Profile details: name, city, profile photo and preferred language, if you add them.
• KYC document (optional): a photo of a masked Aadhaar or PAN, only if you choose to get a verified badge.
• Property listings: details, prices, photos and location of properties you list.
• Chats: messages you send to and receive from other users inside the app.
• Reviews, reports and support tickets that you submit.
• Saved properties and blocked users lists.
• Technical data: IP address and basic request logs, used only for security and to prevent abuse.

We do not collect your contacts, SMS, call logs or precise background location.

2. How we use your data

• To create and secure your account (login with OTP).
• To show property listings and let tenants and owners contact each other.
• To verify owners (KYC) and keep the platform safe from fake listings and fraud.
• To send important notifications (new messages, listing approved, support replies).
• To answer your support requests.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not show third-party ads based on your data.

3. Who can see your data

• Other users can see your public listing details and photos. Your phone number is shown on your listing only if you turn on "Show my number", and only to logged-in users.
• KYC documents are private. Only the Stayrent admin team can view them. A rejected KYC document is deleted.
• Service providers who help us run Stayrent, only for that purpose: database hosting (MongoDB Atlas, servers in Mumbai, India), photo storage (Cloudinary), app server hosting (Render), and OTP message delivery (Fast2SMS / WhatsApp Business by Meta).
• Government authorities, only if required by Indian law.

4. How long we keep data

• Account, listings, chats and reviews: until you delete them or delete your account.
• OTP records: deleted automatically within about 1 hour.
• Notifications: deleted automatically after 90 days.
• A minimal record of admin actions and deletion requests may be kept for security and legal reasons.

5. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you can:

• See and correct your profile details in the app (Profile → Edit).
• Delete chats, messages and listings at any time.
• Delete your account and all your data: see Delete account.
• Withdraw consent by deleting your account.
• Raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (below).

6. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed one-time passwords, private storage for KYC documents, access control so users can only change their own data, rate limits against spam, and two-step login for our admin team. No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your data.

7. Children

Stayrent is meant for people aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and inform you in the app for important changes.
